(In order to give my sister and her hubby a chance to rest, we took some of the kids for the night. The other kids went to see grandparents too. We had a wonderful time playing hide and seek and building tall towers and face painting!)
More work than time - so busy!
It's a Girl - I knew it!
(My sister gave birth to a healthy baby girl last week).

Kids' Book Review: Review: Wombat Goes to School
Yesterday, I went shopping! My newest niece - number 8 - was born last week and she NEEDS some pretty clothes from me so she can say, "M gave me this fabulous outfit, isn't she awesome?!" Like any good Aunty, school teacher and literacy genius, I also purchased a book for her. While I was in the children's book section, I was delighted to discover the latest addition to the Wombat Diary series.
Matched with illustrations that tell a story of their own, the simple language makes this an engaging text for young readers and their grown ups alike! When I brought it home and reveled in the experience of a new picture book, I was once again captivated by the classic French and Whatley magic. This has quickly become another gem in my treasured children's literature collection. But don't take my word for it, check out this review from my friends at KBR.

In case you're wondering... the book I bought for number 8 was "Time for Bed" written by Mem Fox and illustrated by Jane Dyer. It is also a lovely bed time read aloud with a rhyming text that promises to send any youngster off to dreamland with a smile.

Goodness Greatness, Grandpa!
I was sitting here on my bed, just checking some emails and catching up on some yucky work. Mum yelled from the lounge room, "Come and help me!" I carefully moved my laptop onto the bed and headed towards the lounge room. Mum called again, as Shelly came running inside to see what all the fuss was about. We both turned the corner into the lounge room at the same time and we stopped dead in our tracks when we did.
Dad was sitting in the recliner chair, looking quite comfortable, if not a little red in the face. The recliner chair had tipped backwards - the chair back (usually vertical) was flat across the floor and the seat (which obviously should be horizontal) was vertical. Dad looked at me, from his upside down position. I looked at Mum, and covered my mouth so they didn't see my smirk. I realise it wasn't very kind of me, but it was one of the funniest things I had seen. Besides, he didn't look injured or unwell. He was just, sort of upside down. His neck and spine were supported quite well really.
Mum stood on one side and I stood on the other. We counted to three and lifted the chair - with Dad in it- into its rightful position. Soon after, Mum and I got Dad up and out of the chair.
You just can't make this stuff up!

I'm glad to report that aside from a bit of giddiness - which he had before the chair fell backwards - he is fine and resting comfortably.

Greatness From Shelly
Dear Human Mum,
I'm glad that I can call you "Meouwm" and you brought me to live in your house. Your bed is really comfortable. The brown leather-look cube that sits in the corner is a great place to perch or flop on. The box with the cushion that you put in the wardrobe is okay, but I prefer to sleep in higher places. Under your bed is a great place to hide and that blanket with the puppies that drapes over your chair, is warm and soft. It's not only great for curling up on at night, but the way it hangs down makes it a perfect hiding place! I can crawl under your chair and hide behind the quilt without you even knowing. Your house is great!!
It isn't just the furniture and the boxes and the suit cases and the clothes that you let me play with - it's like a kitty cat playground - but you do an excellent job of looking after me. I can go poops in a litter tray in the house and play outside. Sometimes, I get so hungry that I think my tummy is going to shrivel up into a raisin, but you are getting better at feeding me before that happens. It isn't that hard you know, Meowm - my hungry song is loud and long and ends with a nip or two. I know you're only a human, but surely that isn't too hard to decipher.
I do love you Meowm! You're soft and squishy and get excited by the cutest things. I mean, it's a piece of string for goodness sake. But if that keeps you occupied and stops you from wanting to pick me up and carry me around the house like a teddy bear, I can handle that. I can play along with that game. But the ribbons... you can give me ribbons whenever you like!!!
Anyway, it's time to go outside and roll in the grass before bed time.
